Feel Reality: The reality of our online world
I am not a millionaire. I do not make millions doing nothing. I am just a regular guy making a decent living off of the world wide web. Although my story isn't glamorous, I still feel it has merit and is worth sharing. I don't like to waste time listening to people pretending to be experts. If you haven't made millions online, don't try to sell me your e-book on how easy it is to do so. I'm pretty good at spotting the "real deal" big hitters from the fakes. The Rich Jerk for example, is the real deal, but only because you made him so. Prior to that, he was faking it until he made it; like a rap star renting diamond chains for his music video.
I have a background in security, but I have never been your network admin. I subscribe to 2600, but I realize the opportunity is often lost if you don't have the first movers advantage. The security holes are discovered, only to be plugged. I enjoy the discovery process.
I have been using the internet since it's infancy. In fact, I was a part of online social communities before the days of the web... Telnet, BBS Systems, Gopher, IRC, unfortunately I know who Khaled Mardam Bay is. I remember paying for internet time share accounts over 1200 baud modems. I started off attending swap meets, I've owned tape back up drives and I've put my fair share of time into Duke Nukem and Wolfenstein 3D. I guess you could say my love affair with the internet is deep rooted and I've put plenty of time into exploring this world.
This site is way for me to keep my feet on the ground while my head is in the clouds. I have always had high aspirations and I've fumbled more than I've pinned down. I want to share my projects with you as I go. I think you will have the opportunity to watch some great things happen as I progress. I have put in my time, paid my dues, and I feel that my time to shine is coming. Keep an eye on the projects section, I'll throw you a few treats.
I don't own a myspace or facebook account, I have enough time wasters to fill those gaps. Perhaps one of the more interesting things about me is that I don't have cable TV, and I don't intend to. I like to read, I've read the required classics and I even a enjoyed a few of them. The lions share of my library is filled with programming books, online marketing books, business books and topics related to the social net. My favorite movie is Fight Club, although Donnie Darko and American Beauty are a very a close second. I would also recommend the movie "Confidence" to any would be internet entrepreneur. I enjoy questioning complacency and dabbling in the surreal.
This site is a way for me to share my exploration into the digital mindset. Reality is no longer a tangible asset, real money is made, traded and exploited online everyday. I have worked for a start up, an e-commerce company and an ad agency so I have a wide variety of experience that lends itself to the online exchange of data and dollars. I enjoy statistics, data mining and market basket data association.
I encourage you to comment and participate, feel free to speak up or put me in my place. My final words of wisdom... Don't let curiosity lead you to "goatse" or "two girls one cup". You will be scarred for life. You have been warned.
